Public Joint Stock Company «ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih» is among leaders of the largest enterprises of the mining and metallurgical complex in Ukraine and is part of the international corporation «ArcelorMittal». «ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih» is one of the largest producers of coke in Ukraine and Eastern Europe. During the production coal is processed, with the subsequent creation of coke, coke gas and chemical products of coking.

PJSC “ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih” is the largest consumer of coke production, where the production cycle requires coking products: coke, sulfuric acid and purified coke gas. The peculiarity of this production is the use of a progressive technology of ramming coal compound, which allows to reduce the cost of coke by using up to 70-75% cheaper gas and coal with low rate of combustion for coking expensive scarce coal with high rate of combustion

This technology has proven to be particularly relevant due to the lack of coal concentrates of our own production, high quality Ukrainian coal, high cost of coal concentrates from foreign countries and complicated logistics of their delivery. The use of such technology of ramming on coke oven batteries №№ 5, 6 made it possible to improve the quality of blast furnace coke and reduce the cost of the compound by $ 20-25 per 1 ton compared to the compound used for vertical loading on working coke furnaces batteries №№ 1-4. 

The following measures are foreseen to reduce the level of environmental emissions:

• ·   construction of a pulverized coke dispensing unit using a smokeless compound loading system by hydro injection;
• ·   usage of nitrogen suppression of emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere from risers of coke furnace batteries;
• ·      installation of gas-tight doors of advanced design;
• ·      construction of a on a new coke sorting plant;
• ·      construction of gas and air treatment facility in the granulation department of the coal preparation workshop;
• ·      monitoring of emissions from chimneys No. 5-6 and the air treatment of facility for dustless coke supply;
• ·       installation of breathing valves and connection to the collector system of air vents in the capture shop.

For the first time among the coke-chemical enterprises of Ukraine, a system of environmental monitoring of pollutant emissions from the chimneys of coke furnace batteries was built on coke furnace battery № 6 for chimneys № 5/6. For this purpose, modern polymers and gas analyzers were installed on the chimneys of coke furnace batteries №№ 5, 6, which allows to receive information about the emissions of carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide and pollination online.

The use of modern technologies and the application of environmental measures for coke furnace batteries # 5, 6 approximately twice will reduce the emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere compared to the emissions on these batteries before reconstruction.
